David J. Doyle

David was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He studied Math and Physics at St. Francis Xavier University before attending the University of New Brunswick Law School.

In 2003, David was called to the bar in Nova Scotia and began practicing civil/commercial litigation at a mid-sized firm in Halifax/Dartmouth.  In 2005, David moved to Kingston, Ontario, and began practicing business law with Viner, Kennedy, Frederick, Allan & Tobias LLP.  He became a partner of the firm in 2012.

Since his arrival in Kingston he has assisted companies and professionals across Southeastern Ontario. David has extensive experience in buying and selling companies.  He has guided clients through the buying and selling of dental practices, software companies, pharmacies, medical service companies, construction businesses and many other types of business that operate inside southeastern Ontario and beyond.  David also regularly works with business owners and accountants to re-organize companies for the purposes of tax planning or asset protection.  When clients need additional growth capital or bridge financing, David works with banks, private financiers or venture capital groups to obtain the necessary funds, on terms that make sense for his clients.  David advises his business clients on employment matters, including drafting employment contracts and assisting in modifying employee-employer relationships.   

David also provides employment advice to employees that have difficulties with their employers; those who have been terminated or laid off, treated unprofessionally or whose duties or compensation have been drastically changed.  His background dealing with small and medium-sized businesses have been a great asset in helping his employee clients navigate issues they may be having with the medium to large companies where they work.

In general, David counts on close relationships with his clients, and a practical approach to problem solving,  to work through the wide range of issues that arise in his clients’ lives and businesses.

David lives in Kingston with his wife Michelle, his son Jack and his dog Nova. He is an avid basketball player and coach. Over the years, David has been involved with various boards and advisory committees in the City of Kingston and has been a regular speaker in Law Society of Upper Canada.
